Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders

Welcome to the VACRO Website

VACRO is a non-government, non-denominational organisation. It was established in 1872 (as the Discharged Prisoner's Aid Society of Victoria) in the wake of the 1871 Royal Commission into the Penal Establishments and Gaols, which urged the establishment of a body to give assistance to discharged prisoners.

VACRO's mission is to provide support and information for individuals charged with a criminal offence, offenders, prisoners and their families; as well as a leadership, education, training and research on the Justice System for the Community

VACRO work is focused in three main areas:

  • Justice System Services

  • Family and Children's Services

  • Research and Development
