Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders

VOLUNTEERS

As a not for profit organisation, VACRO depends on the generous work of its volunteers.  The voluntary work offered at VACRO is interesting, diverse and supported by training and supervision.  There are a range of opportunities to suit different skills sets and interests.

Over the recent years we have had a diverse range of people volunteer their services, mostly on a casual basis. Our volunteers range from 18 to 72 years of age and and come from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds.

A number of Law and Social Work graduates have undertaken their work placement with us, with great success.

We extend genuine thanks to all who volunteer at VACRO and those who offer their time to assisting us to maintain a wide range of programs.

What can I do as a volunteer?

VACRO has several key areas that volunteers assist with in our organisation:

  • We have a loyal team of volunteers who help with Prisoner Banking paperwork each fortnight.
  • We have volunteers in our community project, such as Second Chance Cycles in Collingwood
  •  We have volunteers that are using their time and skills to conduct research for VACRO

- Other volunteers have assisted with VACRO’s reception, providing back up and cover during lunch breaks so that reception can stay open throughout the day and provide prisoners and their families with access to our services and information.

- And we have more than 40 women from all walks of life who are trained in the VACRO Women’s Mentoring Program.
