*The VACRO Family Worker is available
at MAP two days a week, but can be reached other days by
ringing the Family Worker at VACRO Head Office (9605 1967).
The MAP is the first point of entry
into the male prison system and is often also the first
point of contact with the criminal justice system for many
families.
Visiting a family member in prison can
be distressing. The Family Information and Referral Worker
provides support and information to families concerning a
wide range of issues including how to talk to children about
a parent’s incarceration, how to manage other family
members' reactions to a loved-one’s imprisonment and care
and custody issues that may affect children of prisoners.
Other Family Services at the MAP
include:

Providing support and information to families visiting
prisoners

Assisting families in navigating the criminal justice
system

Referring families to other VACRO services including:

Travel assistance programs

Accommodation assistance

Counselling programs (children and families)

Video visits program

Referring families to external services when appropriate

Offering drop-in service for families to de-brief while
visiting the MAP

Providing support for prisoners regarding family issues
