Counselling
The children's counsellor provides crisis intervention, counselling
and support to children, young people and families. The counsellor
can be contacted at any stage of the family member's passage
through the criminal justice system; during arrest, court process
and/or release of a family member from prison.
SKY's counsellor can work with children and young people,
aged 5-17 years, around the impact of having a family member
involved in the criminal justice system, and any related issues.
Counselling sessions can be with an individual child or young
person, or can involve other family members. Video visits can
also be used to involve the family member in prison.
Training
An
exciting new development in the SKY program is the
opportunity for your organisation to attend ½ or full day
training sessions about a specialised area of work; families
and the criminal justice system. The training will equip
your staff with…
-
knowledge of the Victorian Adult
Criminal Justice System
-
understanding the impacts of this
system on the families with whom we work
-
ways in which to identify and engage
these families
-
strategies for assisting these
families to navigate the justice system
-
awareness of the resources available
in this area of work
If there are other related areas of interest that you would
like covered, the training can be adapted to fit your
particular need
