SECOND CHANCE COFFEE
The coffee kiosk is a stand-alone unit installed outside the Sunshine Magistrate’s Court, in a designated area of the pedestrian forecourt, adjacent to the Court entrance.
The key aims are:
Offering training and work experience to offenders on Community Correction Orders and prisoners on day release and parolees, that have been referred to the kiosk program by Corrections Victoria;
To assist the development and impact of the VACRO Children’s Foundation by generating funds that will;
Support the trial of new and innovative services that meet the needs of children of the offenders and their families.
Support the expansion and continuation of services that provide relevant supports to the children of offenders and their families.
A further benefit to be derived from this proposal is increased likelihood of improved employment prospects for offenders participating in the program. Individuals receive training, development and ‘real’ work experience, all tailored to increase their chances of employment.
All profits will support the work of the VACRO Children’s Foundation.
This project is funded by the William Buckland Foundation and the Besen Family Foundation.
SECOND CHANCE CYCLES
Second Chance Cycles has been recycling bicycles and teaching bike mechanics since 2009. The program provides hands-on practical training and support in basic bike mechanics. The program can work with anyone who is interested in learning bike skills, enjoys working and learning in small groups and is interested in reconditioning bikes for those in the surrounding community.
The program provides a supportive space for those who are on community work placements, those who want to get some advice on how to fix their bike and caters for all participants who enjoy tinkering. It also helps to develop skills to give back to their local community.
Second Chance Cycles is located less that 10 minute walk from Victoria Park or Collingwood train stations. If you are heading south on Harmsworth away from Johnston Street we are on the left in front of the flats. We have a doorbell at the main entrance. The program operates on a Thursday and Friday. For more information contact VACRO on 9605 1900.
