How to find a Loved one
To find out information about a prisoner, or where a loved one has been
taken:
- Ring the Information Enquiries Line at Corrections Victoria (03)
8684 6577
- Corrections Victoria staff can verify whether someone is in the
Victorian prison system but cannot reveal a prisoners location unless
one of the following criteria are met:
- The caller has been nominated by the prisoner as their emergency
contact person
- The caller has been included on the prisoners approved visitor
list.
- The Corrections Victoria staff member will check the callers name,
date of birth, and address on the system to see if one of these criteria
has been satisfied. If so, the caller is entitled to receive information
about the precise location of the prisoner.
- If the caller is not on the prisoners approved visitor list, they
can write a letter to the prisoner, care of Corrections Victoria, and
Corrections Victoria will forward the letter on to the prisoner.

Distinctive features: Ararat Prison provides accommodation for
prisoners with low to medium protection requirements, including a high proportion
(50%) of sex offenders and (50%) protection/special needs prisoners. It
includes a treatment facility for sex offenders, the Wimmera Unit.
Public transport access: Catch V/Line train at Spencer St. to
Ballarat and then a V/Line bus to Ararat. From Ararat station a local
bus service operates to Ararat prison; $5 Adult/Concession and $2 Child

Distinctive features: Beechworth Correctional Centre focuses on
reparation and pre-release activities - helping prisoners reintegrate into
the community when they are released.

Distinctive features: The prison has a pre-release focus which
involves prisoners engaging in both on-site employment and meaningful community
reparation via community assistance programs.
Public transport access: Catch V/Line train from Spencer St. to
Shepparton and get off at Murchison. On Saturday you will have to make your
own arrangements from Murchison to the prison and return. On Sunday there
is a prison bus that picks up visitors from the Murchison bus stop. The
return bus leaves the prison at 2:50 pm. If you want to catch the prison
bus, call Dhurringile Prison first to inform them that you will be coming.
Fulham Correctional Centre

Distinctive features: Predominantly mainstream prisoners, with
drug and alcohol treatment unit and protection unit.
Public transport access: Catch V/Line train from Spencer St. to
Sale. There is no public transport from Sale Station to the prison. A
mini bus run by Sale Taxi Service meets the Vline train from Melbourne at
Sale station and runs to Fulham and return - cost is $5 return per
family; must show Vline ticket for that day. Alternatively, visitors can hire a taxi. Taxi phone: 5144 3278, costs approximately $18- $25
one way.

Distinctive features: Accommodation for minimum security prisoners
with low to medium protection requirements. It is a large working farm and
is a minimum security pathway for protection prisoners from Ararat.
Public transport access: Catch V/Line train from Spencer St. to
Ballarat. Then take bus to Trawalla Station. To organise a pick up from
Trawalla Station you will need to pre-book with the prison. A prisoner
can also speak to a prison officer to arrange family members to be collected
from the bus stop.

Distinctive features: Offers placement and support for HIV positive
prisoners, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners, and intellectually
disabled prisoners. Emphasis is also placed on release preparation.

or Bendigo to Castlemaine Station. A public bus runs from Casltemaine
station on Saturdays and Sundays to Loddon. Bus is free with a valid

Distinctive Features: The prison accommodates prisoners undertaking
programs that are designed to break the cycle of re-offending. The prison
will accommodate sex offenders and protection, violent offenders and Drug
and alcohol offenders.
The Prison is located next door to HM Prison Barwon approx 65km south
of Melbourne towards Geelong.
Public transport access: Catch V/Line train at Spencer Street

to the prison.
Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP)

Distinctive features: Main reception prison for male offenders
in Victoria. Functions as a remand prison as well as a temporary holding

Distinctive features: For unsentenced male prisoners who have
been sent to prison on remand by the courts. The prison is equipped with
a multi-purpose Legal Centre where prisoners are able to consult privately
with their legal representatives in preparation for their court cases. Prisoners
will also be able to access legal education workshops.
